Helena Sarin is a distinguished visual artist, software engineer, and self-proclaimed "engineering artist," whose career has seamlessly blended the realms of cutting-edge technology and traditional art. With a background rooted in innovation, Helena initially made her mark at Bell Labs, where she played a key role in designing commercial communication systems. In recent years, she has shifted her focus to independent consulting, specializing in the development of computer vision software using deep learning.
Throughout her life, Helena has pursued parallel passions in art and technology. Her artistic endeavors began with analog mediums, where she created commissioned works in watercolor and pastel, as well as in applied arts such as fashion, food and drink styling, and photography. However, the discovery of Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) marked a turning point in her artistic journey. GANs became her primary medium, allowing her to explore new dimensions of creativity by merging her technical expertise with her love for art.
Helena’s generative artwork has garnered international acclaim where it's been displayed at fairs such as Art Basel and CADAF, along with exhibitions in Zurich, Dubai, Oxford, Shanghai, Lutz, Zaragoza, and Miami. Her work has been featured in prominent publications, including twice in Art In America magazine. In addition to her visual art, Helena is a sought-after speaker at Machine Learning and AI conferences. In 2021, she gave a TED Talk discussing her process of creating imagery with AI tools. More recently, she has delivered invited talks at prestigious institutions such as MIT, the Library of Congress, and Capital One.
